Day One or One Day??

DAY ONE or ONE DAY?

I saw this quote recently and it really made me stop and think.  It made me think about life and taking action (or not) and the possibilities/opportunities that could bring.

A week ago I competed in our Toastmasters division contest after placing 1st in our local Club Contest the week before that. I was awarded 1st place for Speech Evaluation at the division contest. I’m sharing this story not because it was easy but because I took the chance, the leap & continue to face my fear of public speaking. I have written often about my Toastmasters journey because it’s a testament to taking action on something that is in the back of our minds, despite the fear.

I didn’t want this to be a “One Day” deal…..one day maybe I’ll do this…..maybe one day this might happen….maybe one day I’ll be strong enough….maybe one day I won’t worry so much about what others think…..wouldn’t it be great if…..so I consider it a “Day One” deal.   “One Day” is about dreaming but “Day One” is about dreaming AND taking action.

Day One” is the start of positive change!  Whatever that looks like to you. Think of the possibilities for positive change – personal wellness, self development, taking action on a dream (or facing a fear), learning something new, stepping back from people who don’t support/encourage you, living boldly, being “YOU” and loving “YOU”.  You’ve so totally got this!  Trust me, I still am basking in the fact that I not only joined Toastmasters, but that I am now entering contests.  And yes, I am still nervous every time; I just do my best to happily redirect that into focus and strength.

I have many other personal stories about the life-changing power of “Day One“.  It all begins with “Day One”.  Remember, it’s never too late!

To your “Day One” & the possibilities for you,

Caron

Happy Aloha Friday – Choose HAPPY.

It’s Aloha Friday today so happy Aloha Friday to YOU and absolutely everyone!

We have fond memories of our year in Hawaii…..the friendships, the experiences, the stunning views, the mana (good energy) and definitely the aloha spirit.  Aloha Friday would be the equivalent to what we refer to as “casual Fridays”.  Typically, people will wear their aloha attire to work and it’s of course a time for many to acknowledge the end of a work week.   Wooohooo!  Aloha Fridays involve “get together’s”, celebrations and all things happy.  This is something that people anywhere and everywhere can do.

I invite you to make it a happy Aloha Friday, a happy Friday, a happy day today and any day that you choose.  Choose to see the good, choose optimism, choose gratitude, choose to do good, choose aloha and choose happy wherever you are.  Magical things happen to us and to others when we make that choice……

To happy dances and joyful prances,

Caron

“Wonderful feeling. Wonderful day!”

My, oh my, what a wonderful day……

I love all things Disney.  Anyone who knows our family would confirm we are all huge Disney fans.  We’ve made many tours to Disneyland with not only our own kids but as they got older, with as many of their friends who would fit in our vehicle.  The record was 9 of us!  This will be the subject of another blog post one day……our adventures down to Disneyland.

For the purpose of today though, I want to focus on making today a “zip-a-dee-doo-dah” wonderful day.  I love this catchy tune from the Disney 1946 love action and animated movie Song of the South, sung by James Baskett.  For those of you who have been on the awesome ride “Splash Mountain” in Disneyland would recognize this song which plays towards the end of your journey on the water.  Love Love Love!  It’s fun, it’s whimsical, it’s catchy, it’s happy, it’s simple.

Wherever you are, whatever you do, try your best to make today a “zip-a-dee-doo-dah” wonderful day.  Quite often this is just a choice to see things differently, to think differently or to feel differently despite your current situation.  What if today, you made that choice?  What if today, you focused on the “good”, on gratitude, on the simple gifts in the world?  Such as “sunshine headed your way”.  What if today, you helped someone else have a wonderful day?  What if today, a song came out every time you opened your mouth?  Yes my friends, I believe we need more of that.

Today’s the day.  Wonderful feeling…..Wonderful day!

To today, choices and sunshine,

Caron

“To do” today! Anyone wanna join me?

I try my best everyday to do my “to do” list (this is a real tongue twister)!  There are a few daily practices that have turned into wonderful habits when I wrote them down and became consciously aware of taking action on them.  The awesome part is how transforming this has been for my life.  So much so that I have to share this powerful stuff with YOU.

I have a standard “to do” list and I add other interesting and fun stuff to it as necessary (such as get groceries, shovel snow, pay bills, get a tooth pulled, etc).  I admit, I’m a list person.  It works for me and I know, the more we use lists the more we depend on them but it’s just the way I roll.

The items that are part of my daily ritual “to do” include:

  • Wake up, get up, show up
  • Do some “good” (for myself, for others, for the world)
  • Be kind (to myself and others)
  • Practice gratitude
  • Choose happiness
  • Oh, and the occasional cartwheel, spontaneous dance or “joy jumpin” move!

I hope that you are incorporating these life-changing practices into your daily life.  Write them down, say them, choose them, live them, believe them……let this be the way we all rock and roll!  Every single one of us has different stories, challenges, dreams and goals.  We all have “off” days and “on” days.  Every. single. one. of. us.  And that’s okay.  Try your best to do whatever you can in your current situation.  I’m sure that you will find your life positively impacted as these become habits; not to mention the positive impact you will make on the lives of others.  Oh, and here’s an added bonus, these “to do woooo hoooo hoooos” are FREE (I bet you wanna join me now)!

So get out there and shine your fanflippintastic awesomeness in a world that needs you more than ever.

To choices and positive change,

Caron

Choose to “BE THE GOOD”.

Good things happen in our own lives, around us and out in the world every day.  Focusing on what is good in our lives is a very healthy habit…and it sure makes the challenges easier to deal with!  Purposefully looking for and acknowledging the positive creates a shift in how we see situations, including our own.  It affects our thinking, our behaviour, our actions and ultimately, our lives.  Following this practice does not mean that we won’t experience setbacks of any sort, it means that we purposefully choosing to live and THRIVE.    The fantastic thing is that it’s not too late for anyone to make this transformational change.

Last week, I wrote about living our “what ifs” and 9 ways to start taking action towards living them (https://www.goodandkindcompany.com/9-simple-ways-to-start-taking-action-towards-living-your-what-ifs/).  I received some great feedback from people who shared their own “what ifs” with me and the changes they are implementing to realize their goals.  Thank you!!  Every single one of us has different “what ifs”.  Choose those that add to your personal growth and then start taking action.  Choose to forgive someone, to reach out to someone you’ve been thinking of, to be more loving to yourself and others, to face a fear, to start that project, to be more kind, to compliment yourself and others more, to be more respectful, to celebrate more, to have spontaneous fun, to understand more, to live with less, to laugh more, to not judge others, to listen more and talk less, to see the beauty in the world, to speak positively, to be more compassionate. Choose to BE THE “GOOD”.

When we choose to “BE THE GOOD” and live with compassion and kindness, people change, awesome happens, thinking changes, spirits soften, opportunities reveal, healing happens, situations change, connection happens, hope appears and love happens. – Caron Keens

Kindness and compassion affects the recipient of the act, the doer of the act, the observers, those who hear about it, those who read about it, those who share it and those who watch it on TV or social media.  The ripple effect just keeps going and going, spreading all that super cool rockin’ awesomeness to those in its path. Now that’s something good worth celebrating!

Thoughts Become THings

Together in good changes,

Caron

You can choose this!

Consider how awesome it is that at any moment, we can choose our thoughts, our words, our actions, our reactions, our attitudes, our opinions.  Do feelings, emotions and beliefs affect these choices?  Absolutely!  Don’t deny what you are feeling – EVER.  Suppressed feelings will eventually come out one way or another – and not usually how we want (or expect).

Learning to have awareness, to recognize how we are feeling is a huge step in being able to better manage our personal situations.  It provides us with an opportunity to step back, reflect, make a choice and take action, whether that action is to change something or not.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

-Wayne Dyer

We all have stories; we all face challenges and triumphs; we all experience our own version of sadness, joy, fear and happiness; we all need to be celebrated, appreciated, respected and encouraged.  Although we are each on our separate paths, we are really together in the journey.  Let’s do our best to make it wonder(full) for ourselves and each other.

To choices of love and peace,

Caron

Small life changes give big results. Here’s how….

One of the biggest life changes is learning to accept, acknowledge and celebrate the small positive life changes.  Many of us do not realize the effect of the small changes that we implement.  It is so important to recognize that these small changes are contributing to significant changes over time. You are still moving forward!

Here are some helpful tips for you to consider regarding your own small positive life changes:

  • Small changes set us up for success.  There is a higher probability of doing them, completing them, following through with them.

Celebrate your small changes, however insignificant you may THINK they are.

  • When we are able to be conscious of any step we take towards growth, learning or improvement, we are living deliberately.
  • If we wait for something big to validate that we are making progress, moving forward or creating change in our life, we may end up feeling stuck and frustrated.  Is that the truth?  I am quite confident you do something almost every day that contributes to positive change.  Even thinking new thoughts counts.  Choosing to think differently and with focus will create new behaviours and actions.  In time this will create new habits!
  • Do you feel like you are moving backwards (or not moving at all)?  Have you experienced setbacks, roadblocks, are you trying to get up from being knocked down?  Are you struggling with a decision or action that didn’t work out?  Have you had upsetting news?  Have you had disturbing news?  Have you had sad news?  Respect YOURSELF.  Take the time to process emotions, to reach in, to reach out, to connect, to reconnect and if necessary, to disconnect and step back.  RESPECT YOURSELF.   There is nothing wrong with being still, with allowing yourself the opportunity to breathe, think, process and “just be”.  Then start making some small steps towards moving forward, to getting back up, to doing what you can with what you have and where you are, to starting over, to regrouping!
  • You may have some people that support you in your small life changes, you may have some who try to discourage you, you may have some who say nothing. It’s hard to prepare for the various reactions.  My advice is to keep accepting, acknowledging and celebrating anything you are doing to be a better person.   Here’s an awesome “bonus”…..as you become more conscious of your own changes, you will also be more aware of the small changes that others make!  You’ll want to let them know you notice, you’ll want to encourage them and you’ll be sincerely happy for them.  That’s how positive change happens, in our own lives and in the lives of others.  Isn’t that truly what we are all seeking and isn’t that exactly what the world needs right now?
  • You are ready for a big change?  Well, I can talk a lot about that!  Hmmmm, perhaps this will be a future post?  If you are ready for big changes, I get that – TOTALLY.  My advice would be to get yourself organized with a plan and start making some small changes to begin with.  You will once again be setting yourself up for success this way.  Slowly implement those changes that are more challenging, make a bigger impact and perhaps frighten you!  Revise your plan if you need to, switch things up, change your mind if you want too………just keep taking action (I have to remind myself of this everyday!).

Small changes, big results!  Keep doing.  Keep living.  Keep respecting and appreciating the gift of YOU.

Together in celebration and good changes,

Caron

6 super simple ways to experience a better life with optimism.

I think often about optimism.  Choosing optimism (and it is a choice) as often as I can has been life changing for me.  Let’s be honest though, life isn’t always the most predictable happy dancin’, joy trippin’ experience we signed up for.  Sigh, I’m sure you can relate.  Each one of us has our own challenges and struggles but we have something else in common.  We each have the opportunity to choose optimism over pessimism, positive over negative, and to experience a better life as a result of this habit!

Here are 6 super simple ways to experience a better life with optimism:

  1. The first thing to do upon waking in the morning: give thanks for something.  Practicing gratitude is a game changer – guaranteed.  You woke up!  Today is an opportunity to make a difference, to try something new, to be a better person than you were yesterday, to tell family and friends you love them, to reconnect with someone you’ve been thinking of, to connect with someone new, to start over, to redo, to rethink, to renew, to celebrate life and all the gifts it offers.  Simply do whatever you can with whatever you have and wherever you are!
  2. (Be)lieve (the)re is (good) in the world. Sure there are lots of nasty and sad things that happen, all over, every day.  But there are even more good and inspiring things.  Be one of them!
  3. Simplify your life so you can appreciate more (with less). The more stuff/things/gadgets/gizmos we have (or think we have to have), the more cluttered our lives and minds become.  The faster we go, filling our lives with “busyness”, the harder it will be to get off that spinning wheel.  Can you eliminate one thing, one commitment, one habit that is causing you overload?  I’m sure you can and you are totally going to thank yourself for taking that step!
  4. Practice healthy habits that help you grow emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally. Get active however you can, be mindful of watch you watch, read, listen to, practice focused breathing whenever you can to feed your soul and calm your mind, eat well and think about what you are putting into your body, get enough sleep, C.A.R.E.TM  more, choose to be kind, choose to see the good, choose to make a positive difference, choose to learn and grow and evolve, choose to love yourself, choose to love others, choose to think differently, choose to be brave, choose to take a stand, choose your thoughts, choose to believe, choose to speak your truth, choose to forgive, choose to live your best life.
  5. Be compassionate and non-judgmental. We never know what another person is dealing with.  Health issues, care-giving, finances, insecurity, job loss, relationship problems, loss, purpose, fear, loneliness, frustration, overwhelm, overload.  Your smile, encouraging words, or act of kindness may be all it takes to make someone’s day better (including your own!)
  6. Who are you surrounding yourself with? I encourage you to take the time to look at this.  This includes who you physically surround yourself with as well as those you are surrounded with through social media.  Both make an impact. We need to be mindful to maintain and celebrate those relationships that are serving us and distance or even eliminate those relationships that are bringing us down.  It may be difficult to take that step, but it is crucial for personal growth, peace and happiness.  In situations where distancing yourself is difficult, such as a work environment, refer to the suggestions in the previous points I have listed.  Any of those suggestions will help you to cope, and perhaps even thrive in challenging relationship situations.

Choose optimism and “magic” follows, more of it than you can imagine.  Joy will show up in your life in the most unexpected moments, in the simplest of ways, and with increased frequency.  Some things you never “saw” before will wonderfully appear.  Your experiences will change, your relationships will shift, your life will change.  All because you chose.

Together in the journey,

Caron

Why now is the time to C.A.R.E.

Do good.

Do the best you can, however you can, with what you have and where you are.

Be kind.

Be the positive change that you wish to see and experience in this world.

I am sure every one of you reading this will agree that there is too much violence, tragedy and hatred in the world.  Far too often there is something happening that affects people’s lives, causing pain, loss and suffering, and saddens us with disbelief, feelings of despair and heavy hearts.

At the same time we hear of, read and witness outpourings of love and a collective spirit of humankindness that offers hope, support and healing.  The positive power of people joining together from all over the world in compassion helps those who need it the most and also creates a bond of peace and unity that inspires us all.

Today, I want to send out an everyday reminder for each one of us.  Remember to C.A.R.E.TM.  Simple as that.  The word care itself implies attention, nurturing, thoughtfulness and sensitivity.  I created the C.A.R.E. TM acronym a few years ago which combines the words celebrate, appreciate, respect and encourage.  I strongly believe that if we can do the best we can everyday to take action and celebrate, appreciate, respect and/or encourage someone (that someone may be ourselves) then positive change happens.  It happens by changing the way we think, the way we feel about ourselves and others, the way we make others feel, the way we behave, the choices we make, the way we interact with others.  This is a start to creating good change in our own lives and in the lives of others.  This is the way we create positive change in the world because this type of movement has a ripple effect that knows no boundaries.  It breaks down barriers and connects us as human beings.  The best part is this is free; all it involves is belief, authenticity and action.

Here’s to creating hope, love, healing and peace for the people of our world.  Although it may seem that individually it is challenging or impossible to create good change, this is not true.  We may “feel” powerless, we may “feel” hopeless, we may “feel” insignificant, but this is not true either.  Do the best you can, however you can, with what you have and where you are.  Be the positive change you wish to see and experience in our world.  The day is today, the time is now and good happens……one action, one person at a time.

Together in the journey,

Caron
